The extensive use of crown cut American white oak in the kitchen and living areas of this residence is a beautiful example of how different grains from a single material can add texture to an environment.
In the kitchen, the custom made island incorporates an absolute black granite benchtop while the back wall unit includes a 5mm thick stainless steel sheet which was laser cut to allow for the cooktop. Engineered steel brackets, concealed within the unit then bolted to the wall, gives a floating effect. Clever pocket sliding doors open up and slide away either side of the pantry for unimpeded access, completes this kitchen with a well-considered and perfectly manufactured result.
Form Design had to work closely with the builders and the granite suppliers to deliver the living area cabinets as designed by architect, Guy Tarrant. The tracks for the doors needed to fit directly below the ceiling rafters and perfectly into the granite; there was zero tolerance.
Outside, the barbecue island was custom made and manufactured in marine grade stainless steel. Wrapped over marine bonded ply, the finish on the stainless steel had to be seamless.
