Pete’s own home—refurbished through the lockdowns of 2020—proved to be one of his most challenging designs. Designing your own space is never easy.
The kitchen is a refined blend of oak, black granite, stainless steel, and high-gloss cabinetry, all fitted with Blum soft-closing hardware. Towering up to 3.8 meters, the cabinetry extends seamlessly to the ceiling without feeling overwhelming. Custom-made, flush handles accent both the white and oak cabinetry, enhancing the clean aesthetic. The integrated rubbish bin features Blum’s servo-drive system—an electronic push-to-open mechanism that proves invaluable when hands are full. The granite island serves purely as a workspace and entertainment hub, free from plumbing or services that could disrupt its flow. Along the back wall, a striking stainless-steel bench—expertly welded by Kings Custom—creates the illusion of a solid 5mm stainless steel slab.
The dining table is a true labour of love, crafted from recycled rimu salvaged during the home's demolition. Painstakingly de-nailed and finished in a semi-matte Osmo hard wax oil, it brings warmth and history to the space.
In the lounge, the cabinetry is a dynamic mix of white polyurethane units, mismatched oak veneer backing, and black powder-coated steel shelves. The centre door is wrapped in fine black fabric, allowing ventilation for the amplifier while discreetly concealing the centre speaker without compromising sound quality.
