Designed and executed with understated luxury in mind, this kitchen renovation is completely custom made by Form Design using beautiful materials such as Carrara marble, stained American white oak and Austrian-made cupboard fittings on soft-close drawers from Blum.
Building the island required meticulous planning to ensure perfect placement of the stainless steel sink in statuary vein Carrara marble. With waterfall ends, this main kitchen feature was built to be solid and durable.
Use of stained American white oak ties the island through to the floor-to-ceiling shelves and cabinetry, also finished in American white oak. Wrapping around the stainless steel bench with cooktop, the cabinetry also allowed for flat-screen TV recess. Custom fabricated solid timber handles were designed and manufactured so that the beauty of the natural timber was not interrupted.
As kitchens are high-use zones they are prone to damage. Form Design manufactured the cabinetry using solid timber veneer with deep solid timber flashings for exposed end panels.
The refreshing colour and texture of the marble offsets the richness of the stain in the cabinetry, while the stainless steel cooktop is streamlined and functional. Considered placement of recessed lighting under the cabinetry over the cooktop, along with concealed appliances behind anodised aluminium roller doors, gives a sense of utilitarian purpose.
